Xperia Z2 vs Galaxy S5 : Face off

Samsung and Sony have their own secret armament coming in 2014 – Galaxy S5 and Xperia Z2 Avatar. Different sources rumour that both smartphones are going head-on to claim the world’s most powerful smartphone of 2014. Here is the comparision between them on 6 Factors

Latest Processor Chipset

Samsung will install a 64-bit processor chipset set on the Galaxy S5 to match Apple’s current iPhone 5S and features eight-core units simultaneously working. In addition, the upcoming Exynos 6 processor are going to minimise power needs and heat generation by up to 50 per cent compared to the current Exynos brand. A 3 GB of ultra-slim RAM is expected to be included to feature unmatched multi-tasking.

Sony is rumoured to install Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 800 quad-core 2.2 GHz processor chipset on Xperia Z2. It will enable LTE technology and support camera lens and imaging sensor on the device. However, Qualcomm may release a new processor in 2014 which could become exclusive with Sony. Xperia Z2 is expected to feature a 2 GB RAM chipset.

Operating System

Both flagship smartphones will use Android 4.4 KitKat OS that features Ok Google, new lock screen, wireless payment, cloud printing and more. However, the Galaxy S5 and the Xperia Z2 will differ in terms of add-ons using TouchWiz and Xperia interfaces, respectively.

Display 

Some rumours hint that Galaxy S5 will have 5.25-inches of screen and 560 ppi pixel density with 2560 x 1440 WQHD resolution to bring out crisp and vivid display. No exact confirmation yet if the device will remain to use Super AMOLED technology which superb in power saving with darker background display.

On the other corner, Sony will have Xperia Z2 deliver 5.2-inches of screen, 505 ppi pixel density, 1920 x 1080 full HD resolution and Triluminos IGZO display technology for better colour reproduction and contrast adjustments. In addition, BRAVIA engine for mobile with X-Reality technology is expected to be featured on Z2.

Cameras

According to rumours, Samsung is planning to add a 16 MP camera with ISOCELL technology on the Galaxy S5. ISOCELL camera improves photo and video capture in low-light environments while Optical Image Stabilisation remains a point of intention for Galaxy S5.

Xperia Z2 is rumoured to have 20.7 MP rear camera with Xenon flash instead of the LED for boosted lighting factor in low-light scenes and less blurring on the image. Moreover, the Xperia Z2 camera could be made from Sony G Lens which includes Carl Zeiss optics.

Special Features

Special features by Samsung for the S5 may include slimmer design from Note 3 schematics, Gorilla Glass and better processor. Samsung usually produces another variant which features anti-hazard traits to be released later on. The Galaxy S5 unique trait may be the rumoured security feature called Fingerprint ID or Retina sensors.

The Sony Xperia Z2 will have the same dust and water resistance in the Z1, multiple display engines such as Triluminos, X-Reality and Bravia, and scratch-proof and shatter display glass. A unique trait is growing for the Xperia Z2 called One-Hour Recharging Technology that uses wireless technology to cut 8-10 hours of charging time into a single hour.

Release Dates

The year 2014 is the expected date for their grand appearance. Some rumours say that the S5 is ready for announcement at the CES 2013 while Sony already confirmed a press event on Jan 6, 2014. But commercial release dates of the Galaxy S5 and the Xperia Z2 may be marked by the end of Q1 next year.

NEW DELHI: Samsung Galaxy S4 last week launched its new flagship smartphone Galaxy S4 with much fanfare in New York. The device will come in two variants – one with an eight-core processor and the other with a quad-core CPU. However, the company has yet not officially revealed the list of countries which are getting eight-core version and the ones getting the quad-core version of the smartphone.

Now, a report in technology news website SamMobile, which has a pretty good record of leaking accurate information about the company, has revealed that India will be among the countries getting the eight-core variant ofSamsung Galaxy S4. This variant has a 1.2GHz CPU to handle small tasks like making calls, while a more powerful 1.6GHz CPU will be used for resource-intensive tasks like gaming. The two CPUs will not operate together for any task.

The other variant, the one not headed to India, is powered by a 1.9GHz quad-core processor.

Other markets that will get the eight-core processor variant (model name GT-I9500) include China, Indonesia, South Korea, Russia and Sri Lanka, among others. This variant will also be launched in all African countries where Samsung has a presence. On the other hand, Australia, Singapore, Switzerland, Netherlands and all European countries barring Ukraine will get the quad-core variant of the phone (model name GT-I9505)

Countries like Hong Kong, Malaysia, Philippines, UAE, Poland and the UK will get both the variants of Samsung Galaxy S4, the report said. There was no word about the variants headed for North America and South America, including the US, which is the biggest smartphone market in the world.

The all-new Samsung Galaxy S4 features a 5-inch SuperAMOLED touchscreen with 1920x1080p resolution and 441ppi pixel density. It comes in 16, 32 and 64GB variants and 2GB RAM. A 13MP camera with LED flash is present on the back of this phone, while a 1.9MP sensor is placed on the back. Connectivity features of this phone include 2G, 3G, 4G, Wi-Fi, NFC, Bluetooth 4.0 and microUSB 2.0.
