Outlast is a survival horror video game developed and published by Red Barrels Games, a company founded by people previously involved with video games such as Prince of PersiaAssassin’s Creed,Splinter Cell and Uncharted. It was released on September 4, 2013 for Microsoft Windows and scheduled for a PlayStation 4 release on February 5, 2014.

Outlast came to PC in September 2013, just in time for Halloween. It’s a first-person survival horror game that endeavors to keep you completely helpless and on the run for as long as you can bear to keep playing. The story follows journalist Miles Upshur as he ventures into a corporation-owned and -operated insane asylum on a dark and stormy night. Terrible things are going on inside the facility, and all sense of order is lost when a breakout occurs shortly before your arrival. You’ve got no weapons and no means to defend yourself. Just a camcorder with a night-vision feature. Not that you really want to see what’s going on in the Mount Massive Asylum’s dark places.

Outlast is a first-time effort for Red Barrels, but the team brings along a boatload of experience. The indie studio’s founders come from a AAA development background, with combined credits on a number of Ubisoft franchises – including Assassin’s Creed, Prince of Persia, and Splinter Cell – as well as Naughty Dog’s Uncharted. The quality of the work done on Outlastspeaks for itself, and PS4 users will get to find out firsthand in a few more weeks.

Release:

It was released on September 4, 2013 for digital download through Steam, and it will be released on February 5, 2014 for the PlayStation 4 as a free title for Playstation Plus users.
